Join us for our Annual Giving Thanks 5K

Grab the people you're thankful for and come on out for a family friendly race on Thanksgiving morning at 8am in Hopkins Park in DeKalb, IL. This scenic course is perfect for serious runners, joggers, and even those who would like to take a stroll with coffee in hand. The Giving Thanks 5K is a great way to kick off your holiday! 

Your participation helps provide over 150 DeKalb County students with academic and relational support throughout the year through After School Kids Club, Summer Reading Vacation, and more. Thanks for loving our neighbors!

Packet Pickup

There will be pre-race day packet pickup/check-in on Wednesday, November 27th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Terrace Room at Hopkins Park.

Packet Pickup will also be available on race day from 7:00-7:55am in the Terrace Room.

You are permitted to have someone else pick up for you. Please note - t-shirts are only guaranteed for those who register during the early bird period. T-shirts MUST be picked up during the packet pick up times. T-shirts will not be held and other pick up times will not be arranged. Thank you for understanding.

Be sure to stop by our photo booth in the Terrace Room to snap a picture with your running buddies! 

Dress Like a Turkey Contest

Pull out the hats, socks, tutus, and costumes to dress like a turkey for this festive race! Judges will pick their favorite turkey costume and the winner will receive a pie. 

Don’t feel up for participating in the 5K? We need volunteers!

This race is not possible without the many volunteers who help everything run smoothly and efficiently. Consider joining us as a volunteer this year!

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Day Before Set Up (16 volunteers) - Wednesday, 4-7pm - setting up decorations, helping check in runners, etc. (Time frame can be flexible based on your availability!) 

  • Race Check In Table (8 volunteers) - arrive Thursday at 6:15am, done about 8:30am - perfect for someone who is upbeat, outgoing, and a "people person" 

  • Food Prep & Clean Up Crew (5 volunteers) - arrive Thursday by 7:30am, done by 10:00am - help put out post-race snacks, clean up race room

  • On the Course (8+ volunteers) - arrive Thursday at 7:30am, done by 9:45/10:00am - direct runners, cheer them on. This role will be outside the entire time.
